Arrive alive.*

*genda bulungi, in Luganda. your auntie was right.

About ten Ugandans a day don't make it home. We're riders, drivers, teachers and one very tired nurse, trying to bring that number to zero. One helmet, one habit, one street at a time.

// why we exist

Ten a day is not a statistic. It's a classroom.

Do the maths with us. Ten people a day is roughly a full classroom of children every five days. Most of them are not "careless." They are walking to work, riding to a wedding, sitting in the back seat of a matatu that was already full.

The good news, and there is good news: most of this is habits, not fate. Speed chosen, helmet strapped, belt clicked, sober driver, working lights. Boring things. Lifesaving things.

"We got tired of mourning people we could have kept."
— Sarah, co-founder...

// what we actually do

Six boring things,
done loudly.

  • 01
    Helmets that pass the knock test. We distribute certified helmets and teach stages to spot the fake ones. A helmet that cracks on a thumb is a hat.
  • 02
    30 km/h where people live. Markets, stages, school gates. We petition for the signs, the humps, and the enforcement.
  • 03
    Sober stages. Breathalyser culture at boda stages on Friday nights, with the stage chair's blessing. Popular? No. Effective? Ask Wandegeya.
  • 04
    Be seen after dark. Reflector strips on bodas and bicycles, reflective jackets for cane-walkers. Most of our dead are killed at night, invisible.
  • 05
    The first ten minutes. Free monthly drills: bleeding control, hands-only CPR, and why you don't drag the injured. Bystanders arrive before ambulances. Always.
  • 06
    Data that fixes roads. You report a blackspot on the live map, we bundle the evidence, district engineers can review the evidence and track the issue through resolution.

// the argument settler

Try this before you argue about speed limits.

Drag the slider. Watch how a few km/h decide whether a pedestrian walks away. Reaction (1s) + braking on dry tarmac.

// the pledge wall

Sign it.
We'll pin it up.

"I will drive at safe speeds, wear my helmet and my belt, stay sober, and look out for the pedestrian, the rider and the child. They are all somebody's person."

Your name can appear on the pledge wall whether you are registered or a guest. Registered users can later see the pledge in their profile.

Campaign of the month

Arrive alive is not a slogan. It is the last kilometre.

Choose one road habit this week. Wear the helmet. Put the phone away. Slow down before the junction. Then tell someone else why you did it.
